Larger FFT sizes improve frequency-bin spacing but require more samples and may respond more slowly.

ZERO-CROSSING EST.—approximate Hz
- dBFS
- Decibels relative to digital full scale. 0 dBFS represents maximum representable digital amplitude.
- RMS
- Root mean square amplitude, calculated from the sampled buffer.
- Crest factor
- Peak amplitude divided by RMS amplitude.
- Zero-crossing estimate
- A rough estimate from positive-going zero crossings. Most useful for clean single tones; not a substitute for spectral analysis.
- Calibration
- Amplitude is normalized digital sample level, not calibrated volts or sound-pressure level. Microphone sensitivity and system gain are unknown.
